Cambridge University Press & Assessment

Graphic Design

Cambridge University Press & Assessment is the examinations and assessment department of the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, recognised for its long heritage and ethos of excellence. This institution embodies strong values: universal access to knowledge, academic excellence, international openness, inclusion and diversity, as well as a commitment to education, research and the dissemination of knowledge.

ANALYSIS

The main challenge of the projects carried out for Cambridge University Press & Assessment was to respect the tone of voice of an institution that carries both a strong academic heritage and broader values of education, transmission, accessibility, inclusion and international openness.

With a reputation built over several centuries of history, Cambridge University Press & Assessment regularly evolves its image by renewing its visual identity, which remains colourful, dynamic and accessible.

My work takes place within a highly structured brand framework. The Cambridge University Press & Assessment brand guidelines form a complete and demanding visual system, closely defining the use of typography, colours, layout, visuals and graphic elements.

The challenge is to interpret this framework with accuracy, in order to create communication materials that are coherent and adaptable across different European languages and a wide variety of communication channels.

MISSION

Since 2013, I have completed hundreds of web and print projects for Cambridge’s European offices.

Over more than ten years of collaboration, and across three different visual identities, I have designed and adapted a wide variety of materials, including:

Brochures, catalogues, leaflets, maps, promotional items and advertising materials
Static and animated web banners, magazine advertising inserts, advertorials
Internal documents and institutional materials
Large-format event materials: roll-up banners, photocalls, banners, signage for activities and trade shows

Her work is consistently creative, high quality, and delivered on time. She’s incredibly flexible and handles last-minute changes with ease, keeping the process stress-free. Her ability to adapt designs for various languages without losing impact is very impressive.

Quick to understand requirements and always bringing fresh ideas to the table, Sandra is a true professional and a joy to collaborate with.”

Faites/Fête de l’Anglais
French Event

Since 2019, the Paris office has created an event dedicated to learning English.

I designed the visual identity of this annual event and produced all communication materials: posters, advertising banners, social media posts, flyers, event program, and more.

Poster Design

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of its renowned textbook Grammar in Use, designed to help learners improve their English grammar, Cambridge, in collaboration with the equally renowned Smith&Son (Independent English Bookshop), created a poster.

I came up with the concept and the phrase “I went to Smith&Son and buy (mistake) → bought (corrected) this book”, and designed the poster in line with the Grammar in Use graphic guidelines.

Creation of 10 banners designed to illustrate the headers of newsletters.
Beyond the banner design itself, I also created a series of custom characters, each illustrating the topic of the corresponding newsletter.

Education without borders event

In 2019, Cambridge organized a festive event bringing together all exam centers and staff from across Europe to strengthen its community and anchor its values.

I conceived and implemented the event concept around the symbolism of the star.
